The exhibition path of Museo dell'Arte della Lana is a real sensory experience
Arte della Lana Museum is located in the complex of the woollen mill of Stia in Casentino, which was restored after decades in a state of abandon. Nowadays the plant, as a wonderful sample of industrial archaeology, comes back to life not as a production plant but as a cultural centre related to the textile industry of the Casentino area.
THE MUSEUM IS FULLY ACCESSIBLE TO DISABLED PEOPLE. All the information texts provided in the different rooms of the museum are written in Italian and English
The Museum, as the Woollen mill did in the past, becomes again the place where using our hands, a space where we can create, where you can learn by testing, not only an inactive place to visit, but a "gym" that allows you “to train” with emotional involvement and fun by touching and working natural fibres and learning how to use many textile tools essential for processing wool.
That typical woolen cloth with a curly surface, moreover widespread in the green flag colors and orange goose beak, known by the name of Casentino, particularly appreciated by the gentlemen of the Tuscan countryside, especially if the neck is "garnished" with a red fox fur, it is nothing more than the refined descendent of that ancient rustic cloth distinguished by the Florentine merchants of the '300 with the term of thick cloth of Casentino.
